The Benefits of seeing a Webster Certified Chiropractor during Pregnancy

More women and birth providers are realizing the benefits of prenatal chiropractic care, however, not all prenatal chiropractic care is created equal. Webster Certified chiropractors are considered the “gold standard” when it comes to receiving chiropractic care during pregnancy, as Webster Technique certified chiropractors have received specialized training in prenatal chiropractic care to provide the most effective and specialized care during your pregnancy.

What exactly is Webster Technique?

The focus of the Webster Technique is the specific chiropractic analysis and adjustment of the sacrum and pelvis. The specificity of the adjustment focuses on balancing the bones, muscles, and ligaments of the pelvis and optimizing the mother’s pelvic function during pregnancy and birth. The Webster Technique can also helpful in relieving lower back pain, sciatic pain, pubic symphysis pain, and many more pelvic-related conditions which are considered quite common during pregnancy.

Can the Webster Technique make labor easier?

The Webster Technique may ease discomfort during labor. This occurs as a result of the chiropractic adjustment balancing the pelvis and reducing ligament tension. Any combination of pelvic movement restriction can contribute to lower back pain and possibly lead to a longer and more uncomfortable labor. Going into labor with a balanced pelvis may reduce your discomfort and promote an easier labor.

Does the Webster Technique effect the baby?

Yes, in all the right ways! Balancing the pelvis not only affects you, but it can help your baby, too. Balancing the pelvis can create more space for the baby throughout pregnancy, allowing the baby to be more comfortable and settle into an optimal (head down) position for birth. The Webster Technique can be especially helpful in optimizing pelvic position to aid in promoting more optimal baby position from breech presentation. More on this to come!

When should a pregnant woman start going to the chiropractor?

The earlier in pregnancy the better, as our goal is to get you feeling comfortable for as long as possible. However, it’s never too late, as some of our patients begin coming in their third trimester. It’s important to take care of your body and be proactive in preventing common pregnancy pain and proper pelvic balance.

How often should I see a chiropractor during pregnancy?

In our office, we suggest visiting the chiropractor as often as you see OBGYN/Midwife during pregnancy for maintenance care. This frequency allows us ample time to aid in your comfort while not keeping you and baby stuck in our office all the time. If an issue is persisting, we may suggest more frequent visits until we can create a longer pain-free window between visits.
